AOM DEI Travel Scholarship Awarded
Congratulations to our post-master’s researcher, Seung Joo Yoo, for being selected to receive a travel scholarship from the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Division of the Academy of Management! With over 290 applicants, this award will help support his upcoming participation in AOM 2025 in Copenhagen.

Presentation at the 2025 SIOP Conference
Our doctoral student, Seungju Hyun, delivered his first poster presentation at the 2025 Annual Conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) in Denver, Colorado.
With the leading contribution of Seung Joo Yoo, a master’s graduate from our lab (and currently post-master's researcher), we introduced a novel perspective on how gender-atypical military team leaders positively influence followers’ military training performance. Through the presentation, we shared our compelling findings and exchanged ideas for future research.

NLP Hands-On Workshop
OP Lab members took part in a workshop on the theoretical basis of Large Language Models and their real-world text analysis applications. The session featured customized coding exercises using HuggingFace, forming the foundation for measuring psychological constructs. We thank Seung Joo for providing us with a seminar that was both informative and practical!

SIOP Top Ten Poster
Nayeon's study on turnover reactions, a collaboration with Seung Joo and Dr. Kawon Kim, has been identified as one of the top ten posters at the 2024 SIOP (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology) annual conference. Presenting our research for the first time as the OP Lab team at the SIOP conference in Chicago, we were grateful for the attention and feedback from participants.

Urban Glamping
In the midst of bustling Seoul and amidst our busy research schedules, OP Lab members went glamping for a refreshing experience. Enjoying barbecue, drinks, and marshmallows on a scenic rooftop, we spent the evening around a crackling fire, sharing stories. The night was filled with joy, laughter, and creative games, leaving us with special moments together.

Presentation at KSIOP Conference
Our master's student, Seoyoung, made her first poster presentation at the KSIOP (Korean Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology) conference. Xyle Ku, a PhD candidate in social psychology and collaborator of our research lab, also delivered a presentation about his research on leader identity. It was a valuable opportunity to examine the trends in industrial and organizational research in Korea and to share our works with others.

OP Lab is kicking off the new year with the addition of two new research interns, Haeseok and Jihyun. Looking forward to learning with the newcomers!
Pre-doctoral researchers Hojeong Lee and Taehee Kim (Korea University's Cultural & Social Psychology Lab) gave a research talk at SNU OP Lab on developing dictionaries for self-conscious emotions. The talk sparked discussions among our lab members and the research team on emotion words and text analysis in psychology research.
Our lab member, Seung Joo, delivered an amazing singing performance at the SNU Festival 2023. We all had a great time witnessing this hidden talent among us.
Dr. Kawon Kim, along with her colleagues, has published a research paper exploring the effect of entrepreneurial narratives on social entrepreneurial intention. This study, which uses a qualitative analysis of social entrepreneurs and two experiments manipulating an entrepreneurial pitch, illustrates that the framing of business as solving significant social problems can inspire the audience to pursue a social entrepreneurial career. They identified the emotion of moral elevation as a key underlying mechanism.

This semester, the OP Lab initiated collaborative meetings with two neighboring labs: the SNU Social Psychology Lab and the Sogang University Organizational Psychology Research Lab. These sessions served as a platform for exchanging constructive criticism and suggestions on research, providing valuable stimulation and learning experiences.
The graduate class, Seminar in Organizational Psychology, led by Dr. Kawon Kim, concluded the semester with a successful presentation session. Each of the twelve seminar members delivered a formal research presentation, showcasing their efforts and learning throughout the course.
This semester, more people contributed to the OP Lab's research and learning. All the contributors celebrated the end of term, with a special guest, Dr. Soojin Oh (who was kindly taking this photo for us!).
Our summer has begun as we warmly welcome our three new research interns: Jaeeun, Joonho, and Kieon. During the kick-off lab meeting with the newcomers, we had the opportunity to reflect on our achievements and the values we hold as a team.
OP Lab has forged a research partnership with Enactus Korea, a university-affiliated organization promoting social business initiatives. Dr. Kawon Kim and Managing Director Koeun Lee from Enactus Korea both believe in young leaders' potential for driving social change. Observing the passion of participants in the National Competition bolstered our commitment to creating impact through scientific, data-based studies of the Enactus projects.
OP Lab members have collaboratively reviewed the principles and mathematical representations of moderated mediation analysis. An added hands-on section offered an opportunity to analyze sample data using multiple statistical software, thus strengthening the members' confidence in applying the moderated mediation model to organizational studies.

OP Lab members capped off the summer by exploring a digital art exhibition, where we were captivated by cutting-edge, interactive experiences. Gathering afterward in a cozy café, we took a trip down memory lane, celebrating our lab's collective progress and discussing the busy yet exciting times ahead!

OP Lab members recently attended the People Analytics Conference, which provided new insights into integrating data science in HR. This event underscored the potential of our research to enhance real-world HR strategies, merging academic perspectives with practical applications.

Seung Joo's study on masculinity contest culture, co-authored with Dr. Kawon Kim, has been recognized as outstanding research by the Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies (CSES). This year, among the seven research projects selected for distinction by CSES, Seung Joo's work is the only one led by a graduate student. We will continue to pursue meaningful research, driven by each member's commitment and our team's collective support.
Dr. Kawon Kim's graduate courses, 'Advanced Organizational Development' and 'Psychological Approaches to Entrepreneurship,' have concluded successfully. Through active in-class discussions, participants gained insights into analyzing organizational and entrepreneurial phenomena from the perspectives of individual actors.
Three papers by our master’s students have been accepted for poster presentation at the 2024 SIOP (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology) annual conference. We are excited to share these research projects at one of the most significant international conferences in our field!

OP Lab embraces interdisciplinary research. Dr. Hyungsoo Lim* shared his research which appeared in Information Systems Research. He also provided helpful feedback regarding OP Lab’s research. Dr. Hyungsoo Lim is a Post-doctoral fellow at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management.
OP Lab members led our Research Assistants in learning about multi-level analysis through group study sessions.

Dr. Kawon Kim ran a graduate seminar, Advanced Organizational Development, in the Fall 2022 semester. Seminar members each made significant contributions with distinct perspectives stemming from a variety of disciplines – organizational psychology, social psychology, criminal justice, communication, and human resource development. Dr. Kim hopes that the seminar members continue research-based, interdisciplinary discussions on workplace problems.
OP Lab members celebrated our first year as a team in the SNU graduate program, taking group photos after a nice meal. We all had different challenges this year but supported each other to stay positive, and learn from them. We look forward to the year of 2023, which will bring more opportunities for growth and fun.

OP Lab members participated in CATA (Computer-Aided Text Analysis) workshop on Aug 25th, 2021. Dr. Shinhye Ahn and Dr. Yoojung Ahn gave us a lecture about the principles of CATA softwares. Lab members had a hands-on experience running analyses on text data.
